Files and links in a NjectAI profile: types, sizes and what is kept
A NjectAI profile can hold up to 10 files and 5 links. File types are PDF, DOCX and CSV, and Image profiles also take PNG, JPG and WebP pictures, up to 8 MB each. NjectAI reads every file and link, writes what it learns into the profile's memory, and keeps the text rather than your original file.
What files can I add to a profile?
You can add PDF, DOCX and CSV files to any NjectAI profile, and an Image profile also takes PNG, JPG and WebP pictures. Each file can be up to 8 MB, and a profile holds up to 10 files in all. Add files in the interview when you create the profile, or later in the dashboard.
The interview asks for files only on some kinds of profile. The dashboard takes files for every kind.
| Profile | In the interview | In the dashboard |
|---|---|---|
| Text, Work | Up to 5 files (PDF, DOCX and CSV) and one writing sample (PDF or DOCX) | PDF, DOCX and CSV |
| Text, Personal | One writing sample (PDF or DOCX) | PDF, DOCX and CSV |
| Image | Up to 5 references: PNG, JPG, WebP, PDF or DOCX | PDF, DOCX and CSV, plus PNG, JPG and WebP |
| Search | None | PDF, DOCX and CSV |
The writing sample counts as one of the profile's 10 files. Uploads also have a per-account limit per minute, per hour and per day. If you reach it, wait a while and try again.
How does NjectAI read my files?
NjectAI turns each PDF, DOCX or CSV file into text and writes that text into the profile's memory in MidBrain. An AI model then writes a short summary of the file from its first 30,000 characters. NjectAI keeps the text, the summary and the file name, and does not keep your original file once it has been read.
A scanned PDF with no text in it is read with text recognition on NjectAI's server, with no outside service, for English and Ukrainian, up to its first 30 pages. A file with nothing readable in it is refused with "No text could be extracted from the file".
NjectAI uses what it read when you work in an AI tool. Improve your prompt draws on the file summaries, and Context Inject can add a file's text to your message. See Improve your prompt and Context Inject.
How does NjectAI read pictures?
In an Image profile, NjectAI reads each PNG, JPG or WebP picture as a style or brand reference. It measures the picture's colors, shrinks it to at most 1024 pixels a side, and has an AI model describe its look. NjectAI keeps that written description and a short summary, and does not keep the picture itself.
If the model returns nothing useful, NjectAI keeps the measured colors only. If it cannot open the picture, you see "The picture could not be read". If it finds neither a description nor colors, you see "Nothing could be read from the picture".
An Image profile's interview also takes Brand colors and style notes under Brand or reference, up to 2,000 characters, kept as the profile's style notes. A brand guide as a PDF or DOCX is read like any other document.
What links can I add?
A work Text profile asks for links in the interview: "Your website first, then any page that tells it more about you. Up to 5." That is your website plus four more pages, 5 in all. Each link must be an http or https address of up to 500 characters. NjectAI reads every link when the profile is made, or once your plan starts.
How NjectAI reads a link:
- LinkedIn and X links are read through an outside scraping service, with a direct fetch of the page as the fallback.
- Any other address is fetched once, as a single page. NjectAI follows no further links on the site, waits up to 15 seconds and reads up to 5 MB.
- Addresses on private networks are refused.
Each link adds two notes to the profile's memory: the page's main details (its title, company, description and bio where it has them, with up to 10,000 characters of its text) and the raw text NjectAI read from the page. If you left Your company empty, NjectAI writes your company description from your website when the site gives it one. Personal Text, Image and Search profiles get no links question in the interview.
How do I add or remove files later?
You add and remove a profile's files in the Profile Details panel of the NjectAI dashboard. Any kind of profile takes files there, up to 10 in all. Removing a file also removes what NjectAI learned from it.
To add files:
- Open the Context Profiles tab of the dashboard.
- Click the pencil on the profile's card to open Profile Details.
- Under Downloaded File, click Add file and pick one or more files.
NjectAI confirms with "File added" or the number of files added. To remove a file:
- In Profile Details, click the remove button next to the file.
- In Confirm Delete File, click Delete File.
The dialog warns "Nject will also forget what it learned from this file. This action cannot be undone." NjectAI deletes the file's text, its summary and its note in the profile's memory. Template profiles are read-only, so their files can't be changed.
Can I change a profile's links or answers later?
The dashboard edits a profile's name and its files only. Profile Details shows your interview answers and your links as read-only cards. To change answers or links, create a new profile with the interview, then delete the old one.
Text NjectAI read from a link stays in the profile's memory until you delete the profile. Deleting the profile removes it, along with the profile's answers, files and memory. See Manage NjectAI profiles.
Why was my file refused?
NjectAI names the reason when a file can't be added. The dashboard checks the type, the size and the count before anything is sent, and NjectAI's server checks again when it reads the file.
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| Only PDF, DOCX and CSV files can be added | The file is another type. An Image profile lists its picture types too. |
| A file can be up to 8 MB | The file is over 8 MB. |
| A profile holds up to 10 files | The profile already has 10 files. Remove one first. |
| A profile can have at most 10 files (currently N) | The server's count says the profile is full. |
| Unsupported file type | The server does not take this type of file. |
| No text could be extracted from the file | NjectAI found no readable text, even with text recognition. |
| The picture could not be read | NjectAI could not open the picture. |
| Nothing could be read from the picture | NjectAI got no description and no colors from the picture. |
| Template profiles are read-only | Templates can't take files. |
