# NjectAI troubleshooting: fix the pill, Context Inject and Autocomplete

> Most NjectAI problems have a quick fix. Check that you are signed in, that the Nject switch in the toolbar menu is on, that you have an active Nject Pro plan and at least one profile, and that you are on a supported page. After an update, reload the tab, then work through the questions below.

## Why doesn't the NjectAI pill appear?

The NjectAI pill appears in the message box only when the box holds text and the site's own send button is visible. Type a word first. If the pill still does not show, check the three things below in order.

- **The Nject switch.** Click the Nject icon in Chrome's toolbar. The **Nject** switch must be on, with the status "Extension currently active". Turned off, NjectAI leaves every tab.
- **A supported page.** NjectAI runs in ChatGPT, except the GPT Store and a GPT's start page; in Claude's new chat, chats, projects, Cowork and Claude Code; in Gemini; in Google AI Mode only; in Perplexity, except Spaces, Library and the Computer artifacts and connectors pages; on grok.com, except skills and connectors; and on Grok on X, at x.com/i/grok or twitter.com/i/grok only.
- **An update.** When the extension updates under an open tab, a notice says "Nject was updated - reload this tab to keep using it". Reload the tab.

The pill appears whether or not you are signed in. Each AI tool's page, such as [Use NjectAI in ChatGPT](https://nject.ai/docs/chatgpt), lists where it works.

## Why does nothing happen when I click Improve your prompt?

What you see after clicking **Improve your prompt** tells you the cause. Most cases open a window or a menu that says what is missing. One case shows nothing at all: the spinner stops and your text stays as it was, which means the request did not get through.

| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The Nject menu with **Get Started** and **Login** | You are signed out | Click **Login** and sign in on the web app |
| "Welcome to Nject!" | You have no profile yet | Click **Create your first context profile** |
| The Nject Pro window | Your account has no active plan | Click **Upgrade to Pro** |
| "Please try again or contact support." | The server sent back an empty result | Click again |
| The spinner stops, nothing changes | A network problem, a busy server, a timeout, or too many requests in a short time | Wait a minute and try again |

Improve your prompt and Autocomplete each have a per-user limit on how often they run per minute, hour and day, so a long run of clicks can be paused for a while. See [Improve your prompt](https://nject.ai/docs/improve-your-prompt) for how the feature works.

## What does Character Limit Exceeded mean?

"Character Limit Exceeded" means your text is longer than Improve your prompt accepts. The feature works on up to 1,000 characters, and the window reads: 'To use the "Enhance" function, please enter text no longer than 1,000 characters. Your current input exceeds this limit.' Click **Got it**, then shorten the text or split it into parts.

The opposite message appears for very short text. With an empty box you see 'Please enter some text first to use the "Enhance" function.', and with one or two characters 'Please enter a bit more text to use the "Enhance" function.' Improve your prompt needs at least 3 characters.

For a long prompt, such as one copied from a prompt library, use [Context Inject](https://nject.ai/docs/context-inject) instead. It adds your saved context to a message of any length.

## What do the Context Inject messages mean?

Context Inject answers each click with a short message on the page. "Context added. Sends with your next message." means it worked: your context is ready and goes out after your message when you send. The other messages tell you why nothing was added.

| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Context cleared." | You clicked the syringe a second time | Click it again to add your context back |
| "Sign in to use context." | You are signed out | Sign in with **Login** in the Nject menu in the site's header |
| "No context to add yet." | Your profile and memory had nothing to add | Choose a profile, or add files to it in the dashboard |
| "Couldn't load context." | A network or server problem | Try again in a moment |
| A message ending in "Sent without it." | Your message was already on its way, so it went out without the context | Click the syringe again before your next message |
| The Nject Pro window | Your account has no active plan | Click **Upgrade to Pro** |

A context you added is dropped if you switch to another chat before sending. Click the syringe again in the new chat.

## Why don't I see Autocomplete suggestions?

Autocomplete shows a grey suggestion after your text, with the badge "Press TAB to apply", only when all of these are true:

- Your account has an active Nject Pro plan. Without it, the toolbar menu shows the switch locked with "Available with Nject Pro".
- The **Autocomplete** switch in the toolbar menu is on, with the subtitle "Suggestions while you type".
- Your text is between 10 and 1,000 characters long, and the cursor sits at its very end.
- You paused. Suggestions wait for a short pause in your typing.
- You are on a page where Autocomplete runs. It works on every supported AI tool except Google AI Mode.
- Your text reads as real words. Random letters get no suggestion.

Press **Tab** to accept a suggestion and **Escape** to dismiss it. See [NjectAI Autocomplete](https://nject.ai/docs/autocomplete) for more.

## Why can't I see or add profiles?

Without an active Nject Pro plan, the dashboard's **Context Profiles** tab shows no profiles, including ones you made before. It shows a "Create your first profile" card and a plan card with **Get Pro** instead. Your profiles are kept: an ended plan deletes no profile, file or memory.

An account can hold 10 profiles in total, across Text, Search and Image. At that number the **Add new profile** card disappears, the interview takes you back to the dashboard, and a new profile is refused with "You already have 10 profiles, the most an account can hold." Delete one you no longer use to make room.

In the extension, a profile marked **Pro** in the profile list is locked until your plan is active. See [Manage NjectAI profiles](https://nject.ai/docs/manage-profiles).

## Why was my file refused?

A file is refused when its type, its size or the profile's file count is outside what NjectAI takes, or when no text can be read from it. The message names the cause.

| Message | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Only ... files can be added" or "Unsupported file type" | The type is not accepted | Use PDF, DOCX and CSV, or PNG, JPG and WebP pictures on an Image profile |
| "A file can be up to 8 MB" | The file is too big | Compress it or split it |
| "A profile holds up to 10 files" | The profile is full | Remove a file first |
| "No text could be extracted from the file" | No text could be read from it, even by text recognition on a scan | Use a version of the file that holds the text, such as a PDF or DOCX saved from your editor |

The interview takes up to 5 files. In the dashboard you can add more later, up to 10 per profile. Uploads also have a per-user limit per minute, hour and day, so after many uploads in a row, wait and try again. See [Files and links in a NjectAI profile](https://nject.ai/docs/profile-files-and-links).

## Why does the profile bar say Couldn't load profiles?

"Couldn't load profiles · Retry" means the profile bar could not fetch your profile list. Click that line to try again. If it keeps failing, reload the tab, then sign out with **Logout** in the toolbar menu and sign in again.

If the profile panel reads "No profiles available", your account has no profile yet. Click **Add new profile** to open the interview. See [Choose a profile in a new chat](https://nject.ai/docs/choose-a-profile).

## How do I contact NjectAI support?

Open the **Support** tab in the [dashboard](https://nject.ai/dashboard?tab=support). Under "How can we help you?", fill in a **Subject** and a **Message** of at least 10 characters, then click **Send message**. Your message goes to info@nject.ai, and you can also email that address directly. The team replies in up to 3 business days.

Say which AI tool you were on, what you clicked and the exact message you saw. That helps the team find the cause.
