# Manage NjectAI profiles: switch, rename and delete

Last updated: October 20, 2026

> You manage profiles in the Context Profiles tab of the NjectAI dashboard. There you can make a profile active and open a new chat with it, rename it, add or remove its files, and delete it. Deleting a profile removes its answers, links, files and its own memory, and it cannot be undone.

## Where do I manage my profiles?

You manage your NjectAI profiles in the **Context Profiles** tab of the NjectAI dashboard, which reads "Manage your AI assistant profiles for different use cases". It is the first item in the dashboard's sidebar, above **Account Settings**, **Support**, **Subscription** and **Logout**. Open it at [/dashboard?tab=context-profiles](https://nject.ai/dashboard?tab=context-profiles).

Each profile is a card with:

- a chip with its kind: **Text**, **Image** or **Search**
- its name
- **Active**, on the profile your account uses now
- a **Use profile** button
- a pencil button, which opens the profile's **Profile Details** panel

**Create new**, at the top of the tab, opens the interview. While you have fewer than 10 profiles, an **Add new profile** card ("You can create up to 10 profiles") does the same. See [How to create a context profile](https://nject.ai/docs/create-a-profile).

## How do I switch the active profile?

You switch the active profile in the NjectAI dashboard by choosing where to use it. **Use profile** opens a new chat in the AI tool you pick and makes that profile your account's active one. NjectAI keeps one active profile at a time, and the extension follows the change.

:::steps
1. On the profile's card, click **Use profile**, or click anywhere else on the card.
2. Pick **Claude**, **GPT**, **Gemini**, **Perplexity** or **Grok**.
3. A new chat in that tool opens in a new tab, and the card shows **Active**.
:::

**GPT** opens ChatGPT. Inside an AI tool, you can also switch from the Nject button's **Context Profiles** panel, or from the bar that asks "Which profile you are using this time?" in a new chat. See [Choose a profile in a new chat](https://nject.ai/docs/choose-a-profile).

If the switch fails, the dashboard shows an error and asks you to try again.

## How do I rename a profile?

You rename a profile in its **Profile Details** panel in the NjectAI dashboard. The name is the only text in a profile you can change, and it can be up to 120 characters.

:::steps
1. Click the pencil on the profile's card.
2. In **Profile Details**, edit the name under **Profile Name**.
3. Click **Save changes**.
:::

NjectAI confirms with "Profile name updated successfully". Template profiles are read-only and keep their names.

## How do I delete a profile?

You delete a profile from its **Profile Details** panel in the NjectAI dashboard, and you confirm it once more before anything is removed. Deleting can't be undone.

:::steps
1. Click the pencil on the profile's card.
2. In **Profile Details**, click **Delete Profile**.
3. In **Confirm Delete Profile**, click **Delete Profile** again.
:::

The dialog asks whether you are sure, with the profile's name, and warns "This action cannot be undone. All data associated with this profile will be permanently removed." Chats NjectAI captured stay in your personal memory, as the next section shows. If the deleted profile was your active one, no profile is active until you choose another. A deleted profile no longer counts toward your 10.

## What does deleting a profile remove?

Deleting a NjectAI profile removes everything kept in that profile: its interview answers, its links and the text read from them, the text and summaries of its files, any original files still waiting for your plan to start, and the profile's own memory in MidBrain. Chats NjectAI captured from your AI tools stay, because they live in your account's personal memory, outside any profile.

| Removed with the profile | Stays after you delete it |
| --- | --- |
| The profile's name and interview answers | Chats NjectAI captured from your AI tools, your messages and the AI's answers, in your account's personal memory |
| Its links and the page text NjectAI read from them | Messages you already sent with your context in them, in each AI tool's own chat history |
| Its files' text, summaries and names | |
| Original files stored until your plan started | |
| The profile's own memory: its interview, links and file text | |

If removing the profile's memory fails at first, a cleanup that runs every 5 minutes removes it. The dashboard has no control to view or delete your personal memory. To ask about it, email info@nject.ai. More in [NjectAI privacy](https://nject.ai/docs/privacy-and-data).

## Why can't I see my profiles?

The NjectAI dashboard shows your profiles only while your account has an active Nject Pro plan, a trial included. Without one, the **Context Profiles** tab shows a **Create your first profile** card ("Answer a few questions") and the Nject Pro card with **Get Pro**, even if you made profiles before.

Your profiles are kept. NjectAI deletes no profile, file or memory when a plan ends or before one starts. Click **Get Pro** to open the **Subscription** tab with the payment form, and your profiles show again once the plan starts. Profiles you made before paying are read then. See [NjectAI pricing](https://nject.ai/docs/plans-and-billing).
