> A context profile is the saved background NjectAI (also called Nject) adds to your prompts: what you do, what you want to make, your links, your files and a sample of how you write, kept in the profile's own memory. Each profile is a Text, Image or Search profile, and one account can hold up to 10 profiles.

## What is a context profile?

A context profile is a saved description of you and one kind of work, kept in your NjectAI account. The NjectAI Chrome extension uses the active profile when you click **Improve your prompt** or **Context Inject** in an AI chat, and when Autocomplete suggests the rest of your prompt. The AI gets your background without you typing it again.

You make a profile in the NjectAI web app by answering a short interview: what the profile is for, your field or your kind of research, and a few optional extras such as your website, files or a writing sample. NjectAI keeps your answers, reads your links and files, and writes all of it into the profile's own memory, powered by MidBrain.

The same profile works in every AI tool NjectAI supports: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, Grok and Grok on X. Keep one profile per job, and switch the active one when the job changes. Install the extension from the [Chrome Web Store](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ojddfcbggidlmbjnlgdgiikhejhlmmeh), then follow [How to create a context profile](https://nject.ai/docs/create-a-profile).

## What is the difference between Text, Image and Search profiles?

The kind of a profile decides what it is for and which questions the interview asks. You pick it on the interview's first screen, "What will this profile create?". A Text profile is for writing, an Image profile is for making pictures in your style, and a Search profile is for research. A Text profile is either Work or Personal, which you choose with its first question.

| Kind | Made for (the interview's card) | What the interview asks | Optional extras in the interview |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Text, Work | Write emails, docs and posts in your voice, for work or life. | Your field, your role, what the profile should help you make | Your company, links, files, a writing sample |
| Text, Personal | Write emails, docs and posts in your voice, for work or life. | The part of life, what the profile should help you make | A writing sample |
| Image | Make images in your style, with your references and brand colors built in. | What the images are for, where you make them, the default look | Reference pictures or a brand guide, brand colors and style notes |
| Search | Research with the sources you trust, at the depth and format you want. | The kind of research, the answer format, the sources you trust, the depth | None |

Every kind of profile can take files later in the dashboard. Each question and its choices are listed in [How to create a context profile](https://nject.ai/docs/create-a-profile).

## What does a NjectAI profile store?

A NjectAI profile stores its name, its kind, your interview answers, the text NjectAI read from your links and files, and its own memory in MidBrain. When Context Inject adds a profile to your message, it labels each answer, so the AI can tell your goal from your field. The labels in this table are the ones it uses.

| Kind | Answers it keeps |
| --- | --- |
| Text | Used for (work or personal), Area (your field or part of life), Role (work only), Goal, Company website, Company description (up to 2,000 characters) |
| Search | Goal (the kind of research), Preferred format, Preferred sources (up to 3), Preferred depth |
| Image | Goal (what the images are for), Image generation tool, Visual style, Style notes (up to 2,000 characters) |

A profile's name can be up to 120 characters. Its memory holds the interview, the links and the text of its files. A profile has no field for your audience or your tone of voice: how you write comes from the optional writing sample in a Text profile's interview, "Show it how you write". Chats NjectAI captures from your AI tools go to your account's personal memory, which sits outside your profiles. See [NjectAI memory](https://nject.ai/docs/memory).

## How many profiles can I have in NjectAI?

You can have up to 10 profiles in one NjectAI account, across all three kinds. The limit is the same on every account. Template profiles count toward it, and so do profiles you made before your plan started.

When you reach 10, the dashboard hides the **Add new profile** card, the interview sends you back to the dashboard, and NjectAI refuses any new profile with "You already have 10 profiles, the most an account can hold." To make room, delete a profile you no longer use, as [Manage NjectAI profiles](https://nject.ai/docs/manage-profiles) shows.

Each profile has limits of its own: up to 10 files and 5 links. See [Files and links in a NjectAI profile](https://nject.ai/docs/profile-files-and-links).

## What is the active profile?

The active profile is the one profile NjectAI uses right now. Your account has one active profile at a time, and NjectAI saves the choice on its server, so the dashboard and the extension in every browser where you are signed in follow it. Improve your prompt, Autocomplete and Context Inject all use the active profile.

You can set it in three places:

- **In the dashboard:** click **Use profile** on a card, then the AI tool to open. The card shows **Active**.
- **In an AI tool:** click the Nject button in the site's header, then **Context Profiles**, which opens the **Select Profile** panel.
- **In a new chat:** use the bar that asks "Which profile you are using this time?".

Choose **None** in the extension to clear the choice, so no profile is active. When you create a profile with an active plan and no other profile is active, the new one becomes active. More in [Choose a profile in a new chat](https://nject.ai/docs/choose-a-profile).

## What are template profiles?

Template profiles are three ready-made sample profiles that NjectAI wrote about itself: **NjectAI Copy** (Text), **NjectAI Brand Visuals** (Image) and **NjectAI Market Research** (Search). Their answers, links and files describe NjectAI itself, so they show how a finished profile works before you write yours.

The interview offers one, matching the kind you picked, through **Skip interview & use a template**, and only when you make your first profile. A template needs Nject Pro. Without a plan, the overview reads "Here's the ready-made profile you'll start with." and NjectAI makes the template once your 7-day trial starts, when you come back from the payment or next open the dashboard in the same browser.

Templates are read-only. You can't rename one or add or remove its files, and NjectAI answers "Template profiles are read-only" if you try. You can delete a template like any other profile, and it counts toward your 10.

## When should I make more than one profile?

Make a new profile for each job you want the AI to do well, for example one for work and one for personal life. The interview's hint says it plainly: "One profile, one job. A CEO can have a profile just for emails." A profile with one clear goal gives Improve your prompt and Context Inject context that fits the task in front of you.

Good reasons for another profile:

- **Work and personal life.** Keep a work Text profile for client emails and a personal one for family plans and messages.
- **More than one brand.** Give each brand its own Image profile, with its own reference pictures and colors.
- **Different research.** Keep one Search profile for market research and another for legal or technical questions.

Switch between them by changing the active profile. Your account holds up to 10, so delete the ones you stop using.
