# Choose a profile in a new chat: the NjectAI profile bar and profile panel

> The profile bar is the small NjectAI bar that unfolds from the Nject button in the site's header when you open a new chat, asking which profile you are using this time. Pick a profile, click Inject, and your context goes out with your next message. You can switch profiles at any time from the Select Profile panel.

## What is the profile bar in a new chat?

The profile bar is the NjectAI reminder to pick the right context before you start. It appears when you are signed in and open a chat this browser has not seen before, in any AI tool the NjectAI Chrome extension supports. It unfolds from the Nject button in the site's header, takes the button's place while it is open, and reads "Which profile you are using this time?". NjectAI remembers up to 300 chats in each browser, so the bar asks once per chat.

The bar has four parts:

- **The question.** "Which profile you are using this time?" opens your list of profiles.
- **The list.** Titled "Select Profile", it shows each profile with a Text, Search or Image badge, then **None** and **Add new profile**.
- **Inject.** A button that appears once you pick.
- **Close.** A button that dismisses the bar for this chat.

Nject is the name NjectAI uses inside the extension, so the button and its menus carry that name.

## How do I add my context from the profile bar?

Open a new chat, pick a profile in the bar, click Inject, and send your message. Your context then goes out below your first message, the same way it does with the syringe in the pill.

1. Open a new chat in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok or another supported tool. The bar unfolds from the Nject button in the header.
2. Click "Which profile you are using this time?" to open the list.
3. Choose a profile. The bar shows its first letter and now reads "Inject your context".
4. Click **Inject**. The toast reads "Context added. Sends with your next message."
5. Write your message and send it. Your context goes out below your text.

Inject in the bar is the same [Context Inject](https://nject.ai/docs/context-inject) as the syringe. Picking a profile here also makes it your active profile everywhere, as the next sections explain.

## When does the profile bar go away?

The bar closes when you click its close button, when you click Inject, or as soon as you start typing in the message box. Once it closes, it does not come back for that chat, even after you reload the page.

Skipping the bar changes nothing. Your active profile stays as it was, and you can still use Context Inject from the pill or switch profiles from the header.

## How do I switch profiles in the middle of a chat?

Click the Nject button in the site's header, choose **Context Profiles**, and pick a profile in the **Select Profile** panel. The new choice applies to your next Improve your prompt, Context Inject or Autocomplete request. Messages already in the chat stay as they were.

The Nject button sits in the header of every page with a message box. Signed in, its menu shows your name and picture, then **Dashboard**, **Context Profiles** and **Logout**. The Select Profile panel lists:

| Each profile, with its kind (text, search or image) | Makes that profile your active profile |
| None | Clears your choice, so no profile is active |
| Add new profile | Opens the profile interview in the NjectAI web app |
| A profile with a Pro tag | Opens the Nject Pro window: that profile needs the plan |

## Does my choice follow me everywhere?

Yes. Your chosen profile belongs to your NjectAI account, so picking one saves it on the NjectAI server. The dashboard, every other browser where you are signed in, and every supported AI tool then use the same profile. Choosing a profile on the dashboard with **Use profile** changes it in the extension too. When you sign out, NjectAI removes the copy kept in this browser.

## What does None do?

None clears your choice, so no profile is active. Improve your prompt and Autocomplete then work from your personal memory and the chat alone, and Context Inject adds your personal memory summary only. Pick a profile again whenever you want its context back.

## What if the profile list does not load?

If the list in the profile bar reads "Couldn't load profiles · Retry", NjectAI could not reach your profiles. Click it to try again. While the list loads, it reads "Loading…".

If the Select Profile panel reads "No profiles available", your account has no profiles yet. Click **Add new profile** to create one in the [profile interview](https://nject.ai/docs/create-a-profile). Escape closes the list and any NjectAI window.
